Metallica: Through the Never (trailer)

So, a while ago I heard that Metallica was going to do a 3D concert movie.  And my thought was: Really?  You're going to be like Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Bros and do this?  Man, if people thought you sold out before, wait until they see this.  But then, I recently saw "this" and by "this" I mean the trailer.  And my thoughts changed completely.

     Check it HERE.

This actually looks really good.  I'm loving the whole combining the concert footage with a narrative; it could be really interesting.  But, in all fairness, I've never seen any other concert movies so I don't know how they usually play out.  Maybe they have more than just concert stuff.  But I am eager to see how they connect the two; will it be 50/50 or some other ratio?  I just think it looks pretty cool.  Even if there is no story other than a riot, that riot looks cool enough for me.

And the concert looks cool too.  They're on a huge stage, there's lasers, tesla coil stuff, looks like it could be impressive.  And I like Metallica.  They've got some sweet stuff.  I am very excited to see this.  But I wish there was an IMAX closer to where I lived, cuz that would be awesome.

     But that's just my opinion...

Robocop (trailer)

I am a huge fan of Robocop.  And I have been as along as I can remember.  People ask me what my favorite movie is.  Robocop.  No hesitation.  It's great stuff.  So, when I heard that it was being remade, I was excited.  Now, I am a fan of remakes; so I was interested in seeing how the classic would be updated.

I debated on whether or not I should watch this trailer.  Sometimes I don't watch the trailer so nothing in the movie is given away or so I don't have any preconceived notions.  But, I can't resist Robocop, so I watched it.  And I have never been so nervous watching a trailer before.

     And HERE is said trailer.

And I really liked what I saw; though it will take some time getting use to Joel Kinnaman as Robocop instead of Peter Weller.  (But, in his defense, Weller only played Robocop in 2/3 of the movies and none of the tv shows).  I liked the design of the suit.  It still is undeniably Robocop, but sleeker, more modern. I also liked the nod to the original suit, with the gray color scheme before they paint it black.  I feel the same about ED-209: still looks like ED, but different.  And Gary Oldman is in it; he's badass.

But I wonder who the bad guy will be.  In the original, it was Clarence Boddicker, played brilliantly by Red Forman.  He added a whole other something to the original film.  But here, at least judging by this trailer, there doesn't seem to be a "villain".  It seems to focus more Murphy becoming Robocop.

And that is one of the things that excites me about this movie.  It appears that the film will explore more of Robocop trying to find equilibrium between his past life and his new.  Making his wife aware that Murphy is Robocop is an interesting choice and I'm eager to see how that plays out.  Also, the whole "who is in control" thing could be intriguing.

Anyways, I am super excited to see this movie.  I love Robocop and am curious to see a new interpretation of him.  However, regardless of how good the remake actually is, Robocop is awesome and always will be.

     But that's just my opinion...
(Except for the part of Robocop being awesome.  That's pretty much fact).

Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 (trailer)

So, I've kind of been on a Texas Chainsaw Massacre kick recently.  After I watched the original, I watched the trailers for the sequels.  And the one for Leatherface: TCM 3 looked awesome.

     HERE it is.

First of all, this trailer is ridiculously cheesy.  Comparing Leatherface to King Arthur?  C'mon!  And why does Leatherface have a mullet?  It did come out in the early 90s and I guess that mullets were still cool then.  And why does he look more like Michael Myers than Leatherface?

I haven't seen this one yet (but I have to now, after seeing this trailer). I just wanted to share the love.  This is one of the greatest trailers I have seen in a long time.  Oh, and Viggo Mortensen is in it.  So, I guess that is cool.

     But that's just my opinion...

Pacific Rim (trailer)

I've known about this film for a while.  But, all I knew was that Guillermo del Toro was directing a movie about giant robots fighting giant aliens.  And that very much appeals to my inner 12 year old.  But, now a trailer has finally been released!!

     Watch it HERE

And I think it looks awesome!  Growing up I loved kaiju, such as Godzilla and Mothra.  Actually, I still love that.  And I love giant robots, such as the Transformers.  So, from the get-go, this has a high level of interest.  And it is directed by del Toro.  I have only seen one of his movies, Pan's Labyrinth, and loved it; so, I'm excited for him too.

But, one thing stood out to me and brought me down a little.  I was expecting the monsters to come from outer space.  But, they come from some crack in the bottom of the ocean?  Seams like an odd choice.  But, in the long run, that doesn't really matter.  They could come from Canada, but it wouldn't change the fact that they are giant monsters fighting giant robots.  I just like me some destruction!

So, I'm really looking forward to this film.  Looks like a lot of fun.  And HERE is a cool little vid to introduce you to some other kaiju movies.

     But that's just my opinion...

The Host (trailer)

At the beginning of the year a teaser trailer came out for this and I wrote about how bad it looked.  And that trailer did make the movie look stupid.  But now, a real trailer is out and it looks considerably better.

     HERE is the new trailer.

After watching this new trailer, I actually think this looks pretty good.  I think part of the reason is it reminds me of Animorphs, which I really like.  Animorphs is a story about parasitic aliens that take over human bodies and use them as host.  I heard somebody nay saying on this, saying it looked too much like Invasion of the Body Snatchers.  But I disagree.  With IotBS, the people are completely replaced with aliens, but in The Host, the human mind is taken over by an alien.  Completely different.  At one point somebody, referring to our protagonist, says "if her will has survived, along with her memories, she may resist from within".  And that totally sounds like something from Animorphs; there are times when the alien has difficulty controlling the revolting host.  Basically I'm saying I'm interested in this film because it reminds me of Animorphs.

So, I have high hopes for this; I hope it doesn't suck.  It looks interesting and seems like it could touch on some interesting themes.  But, we will have to wait til March.

     But that's just my opinion...

Warm Bodies (trailer)

I guess I should have seen this coming.  With the success of Twilight and the current interest in zombies, I should have realized that they were going to make a zombie romance movie.

Click HERE to watch some zombie loving.

I have mixed feelings about this trailer.  On one hand, it looks pretty dumb.  A zombie being cured and becoming human because it fell in love?  Seems like a stupid idea. How would that have any affect on a zombified body?  And I feel the zombie talks too much at the beginning.  If he can construct perfectly correct sentences, why can't he remember his name?  I think his mind should be a little more zombie.

And on the other hand, I feel it is something different.  Sure, it is the same human-falls-in-love-with-a-paranormal-creature story; but that's about it.  Maybe it is the fact that is a comedy, or the creature (not the human) is telling the story.  Whatever it is, it feels kind of fresh to me.

So, there's that.  It looks kind of 'meh'.  I don't anticipate watching it when it comes out but I could see myself watching it eventually.  Or not.  I don't know.

     But that's just my opinion...

Stephenie Meyer (trailer)

No, this isn't a trailer for a movie about Stephenie Meyer.  It is actually two trailers for movies based on her books:  The Host and Breaking Dawn: part 2.  I saw both of these last night when I saw The Hunger Games.  And normally, I talk about trailers that look good.  But, I decided to mix things up because these two trailers are too bad not to talk about.  Let's start with The Host.

     Watch the trailer HERE

This probably has to be the worst trailer I have ever seen.  Why is it no longer my world?  And when were we ever battling for it?  And who is "us"?  And why will I become one of you?  I have no idea what this movie is about and the trailer doesn't help.  It makes me more curious to know what happened to the world than what happened afterwards.  And what is up with all of the creepy still photos?  I have never seen that before in a trailer.  Will the movie just be an 1 1/2 photo montage?  Cuz that would be lame.  Essentially, this trailer leaves me confused but with no real desire to find out more.  However, Saoirse Ronan will be starring in it; which gives me mixed feelings.  I really like her (Hanna was awesome) but I would hate to see her do something stupid.

Moving on.  This is the only trailer I could find for the final installment of the Twilight series.  I may update it to a better vid when I find one.  But, I probably won't because I'm lazy and Twilight doesn't deserve it.

     Click HERE for awesome bootlegged-ness!

This just looks ridiculous.  Bella says:  "I finally found that I could shine."  And by "shine", do you mean "sparkle"?  That seems like an odd thing to single out about being a vampire.  And the thought of Bella hunting down a deer is extremely laughable.  I would probably pay $8 just for that one scene.

Both of these trailers just look really bad.  I don't know how The Host will turn out but the trailer doesn't give me much hope.  And I know that Breaking Dawn: part 2 will be so bad that it is good.  As in I will probably be laughing the whole way through it.

     But that's just my opinion...

19 March 2012

Prometheus (trailer)

There's nothing really specific I want to say about this other than the fact it looks awesome.  So, when Ridley Scott first started working on this film, he said it was an Alien prequel.  But then later he said that it was just a generic space film, with no connection to the Alien series.  I'm not sure if there has been anything official said since then, but this is as sure as hell an Alien prequel.

And it looks really good.  There seems to be action, suspense and drama. I'm not really sure what else to say other than it looks freakin' amazing!  I really liked the Alien trilogy.  I thought they created and finished a well told story. (Alien: Resurrection was unnecessary).  So, I'm excited to see how Prometheus adds to the world.  And I'm curious as to what and how much will be explained of the "Space Jockey" and the xenomorphs.

     HERE is the first trailer.

     HERE is the second.

And HERE is the trailer for Alien for comparison.

Now, if you're reading this, I'm going to assume that you're a fairly intelligent human being, so I'm not going to include a shot by shot comparison.  But here is a list of similarities:  1) They have the same title sequence thing.  2) They have the same sonar noise.  And 3) They have the same ship.  The Prometheus trailer has the Space Jockey which is in Alien and a quick glimpse of the xenomorph.  (I don't like to use the term "alien" because it's too broad.  The xenomorph is the alien from Alien).

But there are two things that bothered me.  The Space Jockey looks like a tapir.  Behold:

And the whole thing about the different civilizations having the same pictograph sounds a lot like Alien vs. Predator.  But, other than that, this movie looks great!

Prometheus will be hitting theaters and IMAX on 8 June 2012.  Or you can look at the countdown thing at the bottom of my blog.

     But that's just my opinion...

Battleship (trailer)

Battleship: making people guess since 1931.  Ok, I'm not going to lie to you, but I think this looks really good and by "good" I mean "entertaining".

Click HERE to see what I mean.

There are a couple of things that stood out to be.  But let's begin with what I have already mentioned:  this looks entertaining.  Battleship is going to be an action packed, everything is exploding, loud and in your face movie.  And that is exactly what the trailer says it will be.  You can't go into this movie expecting good plot, interesting characters, or moving acting.  You can't.  Because this ain't one of those films.  It is purely eye candy.  Not all movies have to be good stories (and that is a rant for another time).  Some are just visuals.  This reminds me a lot of Transformers, with the design of the ships, the explosions and overall feel.  But, personally, I'm a sucker for watching things blow up.  And that is exactly what I am expecting after watching the trailer.

However, seeing that the trailer clocks in around 2 minutes, I'm going to venture to say that all of the cool stuff was shown in it.  Probably the only things left out of the trailer was the boring dialogue between the characters.  But, with this type of movie no one really cares about that.

One thing that interests me, however, is how it will be tied to the game.  Will it just sport the name Battleship and a naval fleet?  Or will they do something more?  I think it might be interesting to have the ships loose radar or whatever, forcing them to shoot blindly, hoping for a hit.  That way it will be something more than just a name ripoff.  But, that just might be a silly idea.

So, if you like dumb movies with things 'xploding, I would guess that you'll like this movie.  (But I'm not sure because I haven't seen it yet).  But, if you like something with a little more substance, you won't find it here.  Battleship launches into theaters 18 May.  (See what I did there?  Launches into theaters, like you would launch a boat?  Ha ha.  Yea, I know.  It wasn't that funny).

     But that's just my opinion...

29 February 2012

The Avengers (trailer)

Ok, so this is now the 2nd or 3rd or 4th trailer for The Avengers.  (Who is really keeping track of how many there are?)  So, before I start, you should probably watch it.  (Though, if you're reading this, you probably have already seen it).  But, here it is anyways:

HERE is 2:24 of complete and utter awesome!

With each trailer that is released, this movie becomes more and more epic!  It looks like this goes all out:  everything's exploding, everybody's fighting each other, everything's exploding some more!  This is definitely going to be an edge of your seat, thousand mph action flick!  It looks great.

I'm not too familiar with Thor and his universe, but Loki looks great.  I'm really excited for him to be the villain in this.  He's classy looking but still menacing.

He even has a pimp cane!
He just seems like the guy who can outsmart the good guys.  He appears ruthless.  Loki just doesn't seem like the kind of guy you would want to mess with.

Ok, now, let's move on to some things that bother me.  Number 1:  Mark Ruffalo.  I've not seen any of his work (except for Where The Wild Things Are but I don't think that counts) but he just doesn't feel like Bruce Banner to me.  I look at Robert Downey Jr. and I see Iron Man.  I look at Chris Hemsworth and I see Thor.  But, when I look at Mark Ruffalo, I don't see Bruce Banner.  I don't know; we'll have to see how it goes.  Oh, and I just stumbled on this:

That is pretty sweet.
Let's move on to Cap.  Every time he appears on screen, his costume bothers me.  It just looks weird.  And I don't like it.  Let's compare it to the first costume:

The Avengers (2012)

Captain America (2011)
I'm sorry to say this, but the new costume just looks silly.  Having his neck covered looks dorky.  It looks like a "costume".  On the other hand, the one from Captain America looks like a uniform; it looks practical.  The top one looks like something you would where to a party whereas the bottom looks like something you would wear into combat.  I don't know why they feel the need to change everything all the time.  They should just stop.

Finally, what is the thing at the end?  It looks like something left over from a Transformers movie or something.  Then again, I'm not familiar with the comics, so it could be something canonical.  But to me, it looks like they are trying to jump on the Transformers bandwagon.

Oh, one last thing.  Why does Nick Fury have a bluetooth?

He looks like a tool.

Actually, one more thing, Jeremy Jahns, does a pretty good job of reviewing the trailer as well on his YouTube channel.

Click HERE to check it out.

Though the trailer says 26 April, it doesn't come out til 4 May in the US.  Sad day.

     But that's just my opinion...

GI JOE: Retaliation (trailer)

Ok, this trailer came about a while ago and I've been wanting to talk about it but just haven't had the time.  But, then I saw the international trailer today and decided that I just had to do it.

HERE is the first trailer that was released about 2 months ago.

So, first off.  Dwayne Johnson introduces the trailer.  Now, that gets me excited from the get-go.  He is pretty awesome.  Pretty much every movie he's done is good.  (Wait, was he in Tooth Fairy?...Oh, never mind then).  But just the fact alone that he's in GI Joe automatically doubles it's potential.

Then the trailer starts.  That same guy as before is in it.  But then they are attacked!  And it reveals that the US President ordered them to be "terminated with extreme prejudice".  Which is AWESOME!  Now, the 1st one (while entertaining) was a crappy movie.  So, it's natural that they would want to "reboot" the sequel, give it a different feel.  And what better way to do that than to kill everyone off from the 1st?  Now, it doesn't show Marlon Wayans getting gunned down.  But I think it's safe to assume that the reason for the termination was to have an explanation as to why the old characters aren't in the sequel.  As oppose to just writing them out, the filmmakers put in a reason for their absence.  (And this reason is a lot cooler than the reason for Megan Fox's absence in Transformers 3).

But, the best part happens at the end.  That one guy is like, "We can't trust anyone."  And Dwayne Johnson says, "There is someone."  And then Bruce Willis pops up out of an El Camino, guns blazing!  When I first saw that, I literally jumped out of my seat, slapped my leg (I usually slap things when I get excited) and probably bit my knuckle.  I love Bruce Willis!!  If I thought it looked way better because of Dwayne Johnson, it quadripled in awesomeness as soon as Bruce Willis' dome appeared on screen.

However, there was something that bothered me about the trailer.  And that was the repelling ninja scene.  It just looked kind of silly.  But, you can't win them all.

So, that was my initial reaction upon seeing the trailer.  But, then I watched another trailer and had some more reactions.

     Watch it HERE.

As I watched this, I realized something.  This man:

is Cobra Commander!  There's just a glimpse of him in the 1st trailer and I just assumed he was a Viper or something.  But this is how Cobra Commander is suppose to look!  Not like this:

When I first saw that, I was like WTF?  Me and my brother joke around and call him "Captain Condom".  The mask in Retaliation is a much needed improvement.  Good job!

Jon Chu talks a little about it on this HERE link.

Another aesthetic improvement was the removal of Snake Eyes' lips.  (See top picture).  Why did he have those in the 1st?  Good question.  He looked retarded.

WHY?!?!

So, this film looks like a vast improvement of the original.  This is what a GI Joe movie should like look.  It actually looks good.  Everything is better.  I'm excited to go see it.  It comes out 29 June 2012.  YO JOES!

     But that's just my opinion...
(except for the part of it looking better.  That's pretty much fact).

31 January 2012

Act of Valor (trailer)

Ok, so I saw the trailer for this movie a couple of months ago.  But today, I watched a featurette about it and decided it was too awesome not to share.  So, Act of Valor is a movie about Navy Seals doing their thing.  (I'm not sure about plot details).  I am personally a sucker for this kind of stuff.  I have so much respect for our Troops and Armed Forces.  I am so thankful for them defending our freedoms and for those who came before and gave us those freedoms.  So, this type of movie is right up my alley.

     Click HERE for trailer.

Now, the thing that makes this movie even more awesome is the fact that it uses real, active duty Navy Seals.  They were originally going to cast actors, but then decided to get the real deal.  And, it's supposedly base on real Navy Seal missions.  So, that makes me excited to see it.  But then I watched this:

     AWESOMENESS

They use real bullets!  Yea, real bullets; not blanks.  That is so awesome.  You thought it couldn't get any more realistic with the active duty Seals, but then they throw live rounds in your face.  I'm no gun expert so I don't know how much of a difference it actually makes.  However, just the fact that they did it is awesome.  (I think that awesome is the best word to describe this movie).

So, yea.  That's basically it.  It looks really good and I just wanted to share.  It hits theaters 24 February.

     But that's just my opinion...
